Fishing Tech Checklist: Weather, Maps, Photos and Backups
Because the best catch photo is the one you actually backed up.
Fishing is not exactly a server migration, thankfully, but a bit of tech preparation can still save a day out.
Before you go
- Check weather and wind direction.
- Save maps or venue notes offline.
- Charge your phone and power bank.
- Clear space for photos and videos.
- Back up important photos when you get home.
Privacy and public Wi-Fi
If you are uploading photos or logging into accounts over public Wi-Fi while travelling, use sensible security habits. The VPN guides on TheVPNIndex are useful for that.
Organising your notes
A simple folder of notes, photos and dates can become a useful personal fishing log. If you enjoy tinkering, you could even script basic photo sorting on Linux with help from Bash scripting resources.
